Cheap Meals – Reduce Your Household Expenses with These Money Saving Ideas

Cheap living is easy when you use the principles of frugality in every area of your life. On this site, I try to cover as many areas as possible. Today, I will be giving you some tips on how to have cheap meals.

1. Meal planning – This isn’t easy for everyone to do. For one thing, it takes time to plan meals in advance. However, if you can find the time to do it, it can save you money while shopping and help you to eliminate waste. Have you ever thrown out any fresh fruits or vegetables because they’ve gone bad? I know I have. If you plan your meals, you are less likely to buy too much of an item that spoils. Also, you are less likely to forget about them. It’s hard to make cheap meals if you are throwing food away, especially fresh fruit.

2. Use coupons – We all know how expensive grocery bills can be. coupon codes can help you budget your grocery bill and spend the money you save from your grocery bill on something better for you and your family.

3. Avoid waste – It’s difficult to cook exactly the right amount that will be eaten. Always save your leftovers. You can add something to them to make a different meal or save the dish to have in a couple of days so you don’t have to eat the same thing twice in a row.

4. Buy in bulk, cook in bulk – You can usually save money when you buy items in bulk. One thing you can try is to buy the large, restaurant size items. Then, pick a day of the week where you have time to do a lot of cooking. Use the bulk items to cook bulk meals that you can portion out for later consumption (like TV dinners). Of course, you’ll need freezer space for this tip to work.

5. Low cost recipes – If you’re on a low budget and really need to eat cheap meals, there are quite a few recipes that use low cost ingredients. I’m not going to try to list a lot of items here, but you can check out the following sites to get lots of ideas for your menus.

There are a lot more ways to have cheap meals, but these are some to get you started. Feel free to share your ideas with a comment. And, by all means, I hope you live cheap and prosper.
