Cheap Hotels – Stay the Night without going Bankrupt

Everyone knows that finding a reasonably priced hotel or motel can be a real chore. That’s why I decided to publish this article on cheap hotels. Below, I have listed several tips and pointers to help you keep your costs down while staying the night away from home.

1. Don’t always believe what you read – When searching on the Internet, you should be aware that sometimes specials are not actually specials. For example, a site may claim they reduced the price or the fees for a particular hotel, but in reality their original price was higher to begin with. An additional trick that is used is called ‘price matching’ or ‘lowest price guarantee’. While it is a great way to ensure you get the best price available, you also need to read the fine print. In most cases, taxes and fees are not included in the price match. Sometimes the price matching site charges higher fees. Also, there is usually a time limit for claiming the better price, and that limit can be as short as 24 hours.

2. Shop around – There are a ton of sites that offer to make reservations for cheap hotels. How do you know which ones to use? Well, many of them use the same reservation system and their prices are exactly the same. Below, I placed a list of sites you may want to try. I recommend you open all these sites in new windows or tabs. Use one site to find a hotel you like and then price compare between the three sites. Then make your reservation at the best price.

hotels.com
priceline.com
rooms.com
tripadvisor.com

3. Make sure the accommodation fits your purpose – If you are just spending the night somewhere for the purpose of sleep, do you need a 5 star hotel? You should use the lowest priced hotel you can find, as long as it is clean. Read reviews if they are available. I have never paid more than $60 for a room, except for special occasions.

4. If you’ll be arriving late, you might not want to make a reservation – Sometimes you can bargain with motel personnel. If it is late at night and they have lots of empty rooms, you might be able to talk them down on the rate.

I hope these tips will help you in your quest for finding cheap hotels. Paying too much for accommodations doesn’t fit into the cheap living lifestyle. I’ll be providing more travel related tips in the future. Live cheap and prosper.
