Cheap Holidays: How to Get the Most from Your Holiday Dollars

How do you practice cheap living during the holidays? With Memorial Day fast approaching and the 4th of July soon to follow, I’m sure you’d like to enjoy the free time without spending a lot. Here are some ideas to transform your days off into cheap holidays.

When you have those three or four day weekends, the cheapest thing you can do is spend quality time as a family. You can rent some movies or play some games. It doesn’t have to cost a lot of money to have a great time.

The traditional thing to do during the spring and summer holiday season is to have a cook out. Unfortunately, if you are the host and expect quite a crowd, these gatherings can become quite expensive and messy. Here are a few tips to help reduce the cost and pains involved in hosting a cook out:

  1. Plan everything in advance
  2. Buy food and supplies as early as possible to avoid holiday prices (when it comes to cheap holidays, stores are our biggest enemy, because they know they can get premium prices due to high demand during the holidays)
  3. Buy in bulk when possible
  4. Consider having multiple hosts (several people chip-in and have the party at a park or lake)
  5. Make the party pot luck (assign dishes for guests to bring)

Some people like to get away from the regular routine during the holidays. If you’re one of those people, consider taking a 3 or 4 day cruise. Cruises are one of the best values for vacations and you may be able to get a last minute deal just in time for the holidays. To get information and tips on cruising, you should visit cruise deals.

If you’re not too fond of being on a ship and still want to get away, you can find deals on flights and hotels. You just need to spend a little time searching and you should be able to find something within your budget.

During the economic slow down, cheap holidays are an essential part of financial survival. Whatever you decide to do, you should remember to use the principles of cheap living to guide you. Live cheap and prosper.
